Any small dog owner knows that what little dogs lack in size, they more than make up for in personality. These little bundles of joy can fill our lives with love, so it’s really important that we give them lots of love in return. One of the best ways to do this is by ensuring they have somewhere safe and secure to sleep.
It’s not easy, though. Every dog is different, and there are endless dog bed choices out there, but what’s perfect for a medium or large sized dog won’t be right at all for a small dog. Don’t just assume your dog will love any old bed that comes their way!
A small dog needs a bed that’s big enough to stretch out on, but that won’t leave them with lots of empty space. Otherwise, they might as well just be sleeping on the floor. So, when looking for the perfect bed for your little dog, you’ll need to make sure it has the right measurements – but don’t worry too much about physically seeing the bed before your purchase. You just need to know it’ll be big enough (our Sizing Guide can help).
Small dogs are also much more likely than their larger counterparts to feel the cold. They’re only little, after all, and you can imagine how cold tiny paws can get especially in winter (it’s not like they have slippers, after all!). ‘Nest’ type beds, which have a hood over the top, are perfect for keeping even the chilliest dogs warm throughout the whole year.
‘Nest’ beds are also great for that “burying” instinct that’s often found in small dogs. Lots of small dogs breeds – such as Terriers and Jack Russells – were actually bred to hunt rodents on farms, and that desire to dig is in basically every small dog breed (as many of you dog owners will know). Nest beds allow dogs to “dig” down into the bed so that they can snuggle in and feel extra secure.
The final point to consider when shopping for a bed for your small dog is quality. Dogs live for many years, and they’ll put their beds through the mill over that time! That’s why it’s so important to invest in a good quality bed that will last and keep your dog safe.
Our Snoozer Cozy Caves are of the highest quality, assembled and sewn by hand in the USA before being shipped across to the UK. They’re lined with super soft Sherpa fabric, which small dogs love to snuggle up against it (and you’ll probably be tempted to give it a go, too!). The cushioning is extra resilient and the poly fill lining is accompanied by cedar shavings, for extra warmth and longevity of the bed’s life. Plus - the covering is machine washable!
Sure, we might be a little biased, but we think the Cozy Cave is the perfect bed for your small dog. These beds will keep your dog cosy and warm throughout the year, and have them feeling like the biggest dog in town. Now with free delivery – click here to shop your small dog’s dream bed.
My name is Amelie. I am almost 10! I have my first ever puppy called Kato. Kato is a Hungarian wire-haired Vizsla who loves to play, snooze and have a bundle of tickles (obviously)! I haven’t had him very long but I already feel like he’s been here for ever. I wanted a puppy ever since I got used to family dogs and spent time with them. In my family, we have loads of cute dogs but Kato brought the cuteness up a notch! Read on and find out how it felt when he arrived…
If we could, we’d all fill our homes with as many puppies as possible. Wouldn’t we? There’s almost nothing better in the world than their fuzzy fur, soft noses and lovely little paws. But puppies aren’t all fun and games! We spoke to lots of lovely Snoozer customers with new dogs about all the things they’ve learned about bringing their brand new bundles of fluff home.
